Any retired Americans living in Mayapura?

Hare Krishna. I keep hearing about Americans living in other countries who are doing just fine financially just by living off of their monthly Social security checks. So what is the situation in Mayapura? If a retired person gets $1000 a month from social security can they live comfortably in Mayapura? Does it pay for all expenses? If not, do you know of any countries with a Temple where one can live comfortably on their monthly social security checks? Thanks for any assistance.

    Hare Krsna Pandora Mataji,

    PAMHO.

Very good thought that you want to stay in Mayapur post retirement.

Now coming to whether $1000 will be enough to cover all expenses? Nobody can answer that except you. What are your expenses only you know. WHat may be an essential to me may be a luxury to you. So it is subjective. Better to go to Mayapur and stay once in a while (different climates in different trips) and decide for yourself what works for you.

    Best of luck,

    Haribol,

Thank you for your advice. Yes, you are so right. I need to take several trips and find out what would work out best for me. I am still working now but have been trying to live on $1000 a month here so I can see what it  would be like here when I do retire.I would not live comfortably in my own country on $1000 a month. That's why I am thinking about finding a place where I could live comfortably-having my own small place would be nice.

      • Update: I just learned that a devotee can live very comfortably at the Mayapur Dham for about $500-US dollars per month. You can also rent apartments outside the Dham for $200 a month- US dollars. They do have some job offers such as "nurse assistant" where they provide you with free basic housing. They have a lot of "volunteer jobs" that need to be filled and that offer no housing or money. I think I would like to be a volunteer "counselor" and use my social security check to pay my rent.

  • Hare Krishna,
I do not know of retired Americans living in mayapur. But yes 1000$ is a very good amount to live in India in a small town like mayapur. im not sure what are the rent rates in mayapur. This is of course a very big decision to move to another country so I think you should first go and live for some time and see how are your expenses and how u feel. All the best.

I see many advertisements for the wealthy to purchase  apts in Mayapur but do not see any low cost housing available, Yes, I would indeed go for a 3 month visit FIRST before even thinking of moving. Thanks for responding.

  • No replies so I guess this is not the place to retire. OK. I will check out Thailand. I heard Thailand has really nice apts that only cost about $200 a month and that includes all utilities too.
