all glories and praises to Lord Krisna and all of His devotees !

This is a wonderful venue to collect inspiration and advice on how to lead a proper human life.   I am experiencing a dilemma which I hope others can clarify for me spiritually.

I would like to know if it is considered to be a sin and/or offense for a woman to cut her hair under the following circumstances:

I have not cut it in a very long time (probably 5-8 years), so it was getting to be a nice length but has always been very thin and fine.  I've worn it in a ponytail every day - however recently quite alot (more than half of it) has fallen out due to some some autoimmune thyroid problems, physically recovering from one breast surgery and the emotional stress of having another scheduled in 2 weeks.   Basically, there is not really all that much hair left.   (scanty and stringy).   Should I :

- Keep this wimpy reminder of former good health and leave it alone (because it is God's wish for it to be this way right now) or

- sever my slightly prideful attachment to how long it was and cut what remains to just below shoulder length until I can get the new hair (that I hope will grow eventually grow back) to be all the same length - and then go back to not ever cutting it?   (it may look nicer if cut).

After putting this question to paper, my instincts say to keep it the way it is - but there are two separate and different issues of pride at work here.     Which is a sin, which is an offense?  Which is worse?

Pride of the whole head looking nicer now if cut  - versus pride of attachment to how long the reminder is.

Thank you for your thoughts... I am 49 years old, unfortunately not blessed with a husband, and no children.  Currently reading Srimad Bhagavatam, wanting to develop love of Krishna to the same degree as that of Shiva and Hanuman (who were instantly "love at first sight" to me in my heart).
