I have heard devotees saying that they are leaving and moving to the Holy Dhams for good. However, I then see that after 1-2 years of living in India that they return back to where they came from. I am curious as  what the reasons are as to why they are moving back? What do you think the reasons might be?

Everywhere is nice if you have nice friends there. Nice Devotee friends.

I stayed in India first for 2 years then for 3 years. First 2 years I stayed far from Devotees because of my education. So life was not as good as I was staying at the Temple in Turkmenistan.

But second time when I stayed for 3 years, I stayed with my Devotee friends so those years were unforgettable.

But now I am married, because my husband works in US we have to stay in US.

So being in India alone won't mean that we will be better Devotees.

Some Devotees stay in India, study, learn and then come back to preach about Krsna Consciousness in their countries.

Some want to do bhajan so they prefer to stay in Holy Dhams in India.

If one has lesser desires, ready to face austerities then it is better to live in India. But if one got used to luxurious life then for that person it will be difficult to stay in India.

In many places in India, power goes off, washing machine won't work, many times whether is hot, many times money is not enough, sometimes people steal your bikes ... But people are simple, loving and care giving.

Where as in US people are busy, no people on the roads (everyone is in their cars), lesser friends, costly life, lots of luxury, clean cities, nice nature...

Dear Mataji, it is better You try to stay in India for 3-6 months then only decide what to do.

Thank you for your response my dear facebook friend. I think I will just travel to India again after I retire. I am really not into doing austerities. I was told that I could live like a "rich person" in India just by living on my monthly social security payments. But I really do love the Alachua Temple devotees and Gator football Harinam. I am planning to move to Alachua Florida USA when I retire. I live in Gainesville,Florida USA now for work which is only a 30 minute drive to the Alachua Temple.

Yes, dear Pandora Mataji, You better try to stay in India for few months and You will understand and get experience.

True, if one has enough money then life may be easier. But if one feels lonely then it is not preferable. But at the same time I saw many ladies staying in Mayapur, Vrindavan after retirement. They take full shelter of Krsna and derive their happiness from spiritual activities only.

But for me, where ever I am I need friends and relatives.

It will be very interesting to visit Mayapur after I retire. Did you ever see any cats in Mayapur? I feel "lonely" when I don't have a foster cat in my home. I do have a human best friend whom I contact 1-2 times a day by email. Do the holy Dhams now have computers available for guests to use daily? How often do the Mayapur devotees leave the Temple and go outside to do Harinam with the general public? Thanks again for your help.

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

If you know any such devotee, best would be to ask him directly. What we say will be merely mental speculation. Being an Indian, born and brought up in India, we may have a different outlook than an outsider who comes to India with his own ideas.

    Haribol,

    • Hare Krishna. Thank you Rashmi. Perhaps someone from a foreign country who has moved to India can help to answer. I heard that Americans could save so much money by living in India so I had even thought about maybe moving to India myself  too. However, I have changed my mind now because so many come back.  I am "an introvert" and would not feel comfortable confronting devotees I really don't know in person to ask them these questions. Thanks.
