Hare Krishna,

During Kurma Avatar, after churning the ocean of milk, Dhanvantari appeared with nectar of immortality. The beautiful Mohini distributed the Amrita to the Devas.

And, It is also fact that the demigods are elevated living entities, can live for thousands of years or more.

My Question:

What is signified by taking that nectar of immortality during Kurma Avatar if taking Amrita does not make them immortal ? Does it only to give them protection in battles/protect them from dying in wrong hands ?

  • The main demigods, who are qualified to drink nectar  are immortal, but  not all celestials  are qualified to drink it. Therefore they are not all immortal.

    • Further query: What happens to those immortal demigods at the end of Brahma's day and also at the end of Brahma's life?

      • On partial destruction of the universe, when Brahma goes to sleep, they enter his body, and when Brahma wakes up and start creation again, they also appear waken from their dormant like state.

After complete destruction on end of the universe, they doing the same. And when on end Brahma achieves Lords transcendental abode, in this way, they achieve to.

Lord gives immortality to His devotees with ease, as well as His abode, but deep and pure love for Lord  is a rare  diamond even between them.

    • That clarifies my doubt, Thank you very much Prabhu.
