Science and God

Does existence of God and scientific theories like evolution, Big Bang related to each other? Did God cause all this? If we go deep in Science we get answers supported by sciencific evidences about how humans came into being? However if we look into scriptures the reasons are completely different. Is God cause of every little living organism on this earth? Appreciate your response as these questions continuously bother me.

  • Hare Krishna! Dandavat Pranam!

    Bg 14.6

    tatra sattvaṁ nirmalatvāt
    prakāśakam anāmayam
    sukha-saṅgena badhnāti
    jñāna-saṅgena cānagha
    Translation:
O sinless one, the mode of goodness, being purer than the others, is illuminating, and it frees one from all sinful reactions. Those situated in that mode become conditioned by a sense of happiness and knowledge.
    Purport:
The best examples are the scientist and the philosopher. Each is very proud of his knowledge, and because they generally improve their living conditions, they feel a sort of material happiness. This sense of advanced happiness in conditioned life makes them bound by the mode of goodness of material nature.
  • Despite so many rascals and idiots, sanatana dharma guides us so  nicely to the real God of everyone, Lord Krishna. Unknowingly, everyone is praying to Him only, as Allah or God or some other name, but they should realise that everyone's god is that Lord Krishna and hinduism is the oldest and original religion called sanatana dharma.Hare Krishna

    • Prabhuji, please don't call others rascals and idiots. Srila Prabhupada was an elevated soul, he could say these things, but not us. We are servants only, some who have opened their eyes, and some who are yet to. That doesn't make them rascals. I've been noticing this on this forum, some very young prabhujis call other people rascals. I'd have understood if Srila Prabhupada said it, but for an equal servant in the eyes of Krishna, it is extremely insulting and takes us away from god.

I didn't mean to offend you, just my thoughts. Haribol.

  • Is there any concrete proof about darwins theory of evolution or big bang? They are just mental speculations of atheistic people. Modern science, when understood properly helps us to realise that there is a supreme scientist or creator behind this entire creation, but many atheistic scientists do not realise this, and to go away from god, say that there is neither soul nor god, and everything happening automatically. But a creator is required to create that so called automatic process.

    • Very clearly Prabhuji, you have absolutely no understanding of the Theory of Natural Selection as proposed by Charles Darwin. Being so rigid wont help you in your pursuit of God, we as flagbearers of Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada, have to be understanding of others who have different belief systems and their philosophy. Unless we read and learn, there is no chance of that happening. Until we can speak their language, and reason with them, we can't show them the light. Don't be so rigid.

I've noticed that a lot of members on this forum have a very wrong idea of the Theory of Natural Selection propounded by Charles Darwin. Here is an bit I had written on the subject as a response to some other question on this forum.

      PAMHO Mataji, AGSTP.

I believe that you are mistaken in your understanding of evolution. Evolution doesn't say that monkeys are evolving into human beings. Monkeys and Humans share a common ancestor. Modern Humans - Homo sapiens - are a specific species of the genus Homo, who were equipped with faculties that helped them survive into the modern time.

Other species of Homo - for eg. H. erectus, H. habilis, H. ergaster, H. neanderthalensis etc. have  been unable to survive due to the lack of important faculties necessary for survival into the modern age - they suffered from drawbacks like inability to make swift movements, keep an upright posture, smaller brain capacity, susceptibility to certain diseases etc. It is also a fact that some of these species predate H. sapiens, whereas some of them had lived side by side. It has been speculated that modern humans hunted H. neanderthalensis to extinction.

      H. sapiens share almost 97% of the DNA that Neanderthal man had - but the other 3% made all the difference.

Monkeys too have branched out from the same ape-like ancestor (primate) of modern humans. There have been thousands of primate species, but those who have had the evolutionary edge were naturally selected to survive.

All creatures are still evolving - but it is imperceptible due to the vast scale of planetary time and the tiny footprint of human lifespan. One example of evolution can be easily seen nowadays in India - people in general nowadays are taller than people from previous generations. This is basically an adaptation to help people breathe better - as polluted air is heavier, it tends to come near the ground - so the taller you are the better you will breathe. I'm not sure if there are any scientific studies done on other animals as well, but as with everything - if you cannot evolve or adapt, you will be wiped out. So humans are evolving to become better humans, monkeys are evolving to better monkeys - so on and so forth.

Most creatures on this earth have several species mataji. Some species can be visually identified as similar to each other but with subtle changes - eg. the Indian elephant (Elephus maximus indicus) and the African elephant (Elephus maximus) where they are sub-species of each other. There are trace chances of other surviving species of humans as well - but unfortunately till now, whatever has been found have been long dead. Homo sapiens idaltu is one subspecies of modern humans that survived till about 100,000 years ago.

Even tulasi rani has several species - eg. Ocimum basillicum, O. americanum, O. minimum etc.

      • Hare Krishna Prabhuji pamho,

"Being so rigid wont help you in your pursuit of God, we as flagbearers of Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada, have to be understanding of others who have different belief systems and their philosophy. Unless we read and learn, there is no chance of that happening. Until we can speak their language, and reason with them, we can't show them the light."  - but here i see that you have been enlightened by them instead of making them enlightened , you are pushing their logic to devotees. So in order to show how open and broadminded we are , we are gradually moving away from Krishna and moving closer to Darwin or other scientists who of course don't believe in Krishna.

I can't understand why should we bother about the so called theory of evolution - or theory of Big Bang when eventually all these theories will be discarded sooner or later and new theories will appear , all the syllabus of the  schools and universities will be changed. say 50 or 100 or 500 years from now, none of the theories will be taught to our future generations that we learn today.

Evolution doesn't say that monkeys are evolving into human beings. Monkeys and Humans share a common ancestor  - scriptures don't tell us this , so we reject - with the risk of calling rigid minded or blind faithed.

"One example of evolution can be easily seen nowadays in India - people in general nowadays are taller than people from previous generations. This is basically an adaptation to help people breathe better - as polluted air is heavier, it tends to come near the ground - so the taller you are the better you will breathe."   - this is the height of speculation and we call this science !! Just in a gap of one or two feet height there will be so much polution difference that the shorter heighted man will be wiped out. Unfortunately people don't grow to six feet height just after their birth, so by the time they remain four -five feet height for the first 10-15 yrs of their life , they will all die.   And moreover all the other animals (cat's , dog's , cow's and many others ) who still continue to be in the 2-3-4 feet height level will continue to live , consuming the same most polluted air at the bottom of the ground. This is just too much !!!

  • Forget about science, the more you go deeper in science, the more you separate from THE TRUTH.........

science is the biggest illusion of Shri Hari

it is that kind of illusion which at one point of time make us belief that there is the existence of GOD but at another instance,it make us belief that there is no existence of GOD.

so,there is always 50-50 situation...which makes us confused for the whole life about existence of GOD

  • E-Counselor

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

I know this much - science keeps on updating its versions. Once earth was the centre of the universe, next sun became centre, next sun became centre of only one solar system, universe is much bigger. Whereas scriptures do not have any new improved versions - what is the truth remains over unchanged ages. Have you ever heard of an updated version of Gita or Bhagawatam? I have not.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

    • Thanks so much for your reply. Hare Krishna.

    • Hare Krishna Mataji! Thanks for your reply. I agree Scriptures remain the same. However the updated versions/discoveries in Science is due to lots and lots of experiments going on daily by the Scientists. So we cannot disrespect Science on this basis. Can we not accept Science as well as follow scriptures which connects us to Spirituality ?
