Hare Krishna !!!

From the last two years i was taking Fast on every Ekadashi, one day i missed one Ekadashi by mistake, i felt very bad, then i promised Lord that i will never miss even a single Ekadashi in my entire life going on,  but i don't know why i become so much greedy and hungry for food that I missed 3 Ekadashi's one after another, one was when my sister was coming from out of country with lot of chocklates and other stuffs and another was when our family was going out for lunch.. and the latest one was of yesterday Indira Ekadashi which was on 16th, I bathe lord and took fast till 1.00 P.M and was not able to control hunger... I broke fast again.. and am feeling very bad now... I broke my promise.. just because of this stupid hunger...I am repenting now.... plz suggest what can i do now...I know Lord wont be angry.. but am not feeling good by breaking my promise.. Kindly advise.

  • Don't make Krishna promises.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

I appreciate your efforts to fast on ekadasi. From your post, it appears that you fast without eating anything, thats why you are not able to control hunger, and end up eating. We all eat during ekadasi prabhuji, only we eat non grains.

For example, you can have milk, curd, fruits, dry fruits. Some sabjis (potato, lauki, turai, arabi, sweet potato, carrot, beetroot, cabbage, capsicum) and vagar (samak), kuttu atta, rajgira aata, singhora aata made stuff. We use sendha namak, kept separately for ekadasi. Sunflower oil or groundnut oil or ghee as medium of cooking. We use ginger and lemon to add taste. Actually, with the ingredients mentioned above, a lot of items can be made.

Regarding missing ekadasi - what you can do is - you can fast nirjal on Pandav Nirjal ekadasi. This year its over, it normally comes in June.

Another way to ensure that you dont break your fast is - morning of the fast, you pray to Their Lordships that you want to fast to please Them, so please help you. You will see that day you wont feel hungry at all. At the end of the fast, the next day, thank Them and ask Their blessings to be able to fast next time also.

Your sincere endeavour is pleasing to the lord. Its OK to fail, provided our intentions are clear and we are sincere in our heart. However, we should not make failing a habit.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
