  • However, chanting while eating does not sound very proper. Why because those (internal energies) & as Krishna proclaims our internal energies are heart energies or (sacred energies ) our internal energies might not be classified as highly as God's but the yogic knowledge does dictate that the heart's energies are hundreds of times more influential than the minds intellectual prowess. So Don't get all gross, ok-) good luck always! Prahbugee
  • Our Lord & deliverance Chatonyah did devise a way''Starting with the tip of the thumb against the-tip of the index finger, chant one mantra, moving down one knockel on the index finger w/the tip of the thumb & chant another mantra? Repeat on the others knockel & then move (tip of thumb to the therd- knockel down of digit #3 /next finger out, chanting one mantra as you work your way (up) to the tip of digit 3 & cross over to the top of digit #4 & chant (1) mantra, chanting in this way, from knockel to knockel going (three knockel deep)' chant on all four fingers, down one finger & up the finger next to it. When you reach the tip of the picky finger you will have chanted 12 mantras. Then-on your left hand, count down w/the tip of your thumb one knockel on it's index finger. And then begin again chanting on (rt) hand fingers in the same way as before, from knockel to knockel 3 deep across to the pinky-again, for every 12 mantras count one knockel on the lest hand. By the team you chant enough mantras to count 9 knuckles on your left hand you will have completed 9x12 is what 108

    Hare krsna prabhu,

All glories to Guru and Gauranga.

Chanting can be done anytime. Infact it is adviced that one chant 24/7 to keep us out of clutches of maya. However, japa is more personalised approach. Its YOUR time with Krsna. Wouldnt you want it to be special, enjoyable and fulfilling? So,we have to keep this special time to chant the Holy name. This is japa.

One is not adviced to do japa during driving but one can chant. Taking the holy name can be done anytime, eating, walking, sleeping, riding, reading, working out, playing etc etc but when it comes to japa its better to stop all other activities and concentrate on the holy name with your japa beads. If you are not accustomed to using japa beads then start with a counter. I would suggest you to chant on the beads. You can chant on Tulsi beads even if you are not initiated.

Sometimes it becomes impractical to do japa on the beads, then just chant the holy name. When you feel you can dedicate the time for japa, then pick up the beads. It is better to keep interaction with people from minimum to zero during japa. Find a suitable time when no one can disturb you much.

  • I had the same question, because at times having a bead bag becomes impractical for eg. at work place. I started chanting silently in mind without keeping any count..sometimes \i loose track and mind wanders off but when \i remember again I start chanting silently. It has become such a habbit that most times unconsciously chanting goes on at the back of the mind without me consciously monitoring it. I guess it is called by some term like 'ajapa' or some thing not sure...but it works for me. With bead bag it became more of keeping a track of numbers more than the sound itself.

    • Even krishna name taken once can helps out.. ..krishna dont count the number of rounds you have taken the name..he just see the amount of intense feeling for your love and devotion to him..krishna is such a kind that even when a person takes his name without even thinking of him or doing someelse work then too he is satisfied..even he liberates the person who even abuse him by taking his name..he is such kind ..he has not set any rules for our devotion and love to him..we can take his name chant his name anywhere anytime...because love to god does not require any rules ..its just the intense feeling of reaching to him and work for him on the paths which he has allocated..

  • You can count on your fingers or in the mind if you learn how do do it, but then its likely that the focus goes to counting,

instead on transcendental vibrations. On another side, if you decided not to count at all, you dont need anything, just sing loud holy names of Lord.

Focusing on sound of maha mantra is required, but despite that ,chanting holy names can be chanted in all situations.

Every vaishnava should deside for himself is he wanna be interrupted during chanting or not.

If somebody ask you something, you dont need to answer, just chant. Actually you dont need even to listen.

Turning the head in another direction shows everything. So, everything depends on you.
