Is Chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra enough for realization ?

I have been doing some diligent research on Self realization and one thing i have seen common in most of the spiritual practices is Devotion and Yoga (Meditation).

First Question

In this age of Kaliyug is Hare Krishna Mahamantra the most effective mantra ?

I read somewhere OM is the best mantra..

Second Question :

Is chanting just enough for the realization or we should do Yoga parallely like kriya Yoga..

Please advice.

How is for you to realise for yourself in your personal journey towards perfection.

There are enough evidences in terms of how drug addicts were purified to become pure devotees simply by chanting.

Like they say, proof of the pudding is in the eating. No point licking the honey bottle from ourside. The way to taste honey is to open th bottle and taste.

Similarly, the way to taste the nectar of the holy name is to attempt to chant offencelessly.

      Haribol.

  •  Hare Krishna Dear Prabhu,

If you have not read it yet, read the book "The Journey of Self-Discovery" by his Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.  For this book helps one deal with personal, social and spiritual conflicts, helps one come to a state of permanent peace and happiness, and gain a perspective on the thirst for perfection.

  • Is Chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra enough for realization ?

Yes. That's why Prabhupada gave it so much emphasis. There is no other way, etc...

  • Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.52

    krite yad dhyayato vishnum
    tretayam yajato makhaih
    dvapare paricaryayam
    kalau tad dhari-kirtanat
    SYNONYMS

krite -- in the Satya-yuga; yat -- which; dhyayatah -- from meditation; vishnum -- on Lord Vishnu; tretayam -- in the Treta-yuga; yajatah -- from worshiping; makhaih -- by performing sacrifices; dvapare -- in the age of Dvapara; paricaryayam -- by worshiping the lotus feet of Krishna; kalau -- in the age of Kali; tat -- that same result (can be achieved); hari-kirtanat -- simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.
    TRANSLATION

Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on Vishnu, in Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices, and in Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lord's lotus feet can be obtained in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.
    PURPORT

A similar verse is found in the Vishnu Purana (6.2.17), and also in the Padma Purana (Uttara-khanda 72.25) and the Brihan-naradiya Purana (38.97):
    dhyayan krite yajan yajnais
    tretayam dvapare 'rcayan
    yad apnoti tad apnoti
    kalau sankirtya kesavam
"Whatever is achieved by meditation in Satya-yuga, by the performance of sacrifice in Treta-yuga, and by the worship of Lord Krishna's lotus feet in Dvapara-yuga is obtained in the age of Kali simply by glorifying the name of Lord Kesava."
Srila Jiva Gosvami has further quoted from the Brahma-vaivarta Purana concerning the degraded condition of people in Kali-yuga:
    atah kalau tapo-yoga-
    vidya-yajnadikah kriyah
    sanga bhavanti na kritah
    kusalair api dehibhih
"Thus in the age of Kali the practices of austerity, yoga meditation, Deity worship, sacrifice and so on, along with their various subsidiary functions, are not properly carried out, even by the most expert embodied souls.
Srila Jiva Gosvami has also cited the Caturmasya-mahatmya of the Skanda Purana concerning the necessity of chanting Hare Krishna in this age:
    tatha caivottamam loke
    tapah sri-hari-kirtanam
    kalau yuge viseshena
    vishnu-prityai samacaret
"In this way the most perfect penance to be executed in this world is the chanting of the name of Lord Sri Hari. Especially in the age of Kali, one can satisfy the Supreme Lord Vishnu by performing sankirtana.''
In conclusion, massive propaganda should be made all over the world to induce people to chant the Hare Krishna mantra, by which human society can be rescued from the dangerous ocean of the age of Kali.
Thus end the purports of the humble servants of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to the Twelfth Canto, Third Chapter, last verse

Just chanting and hearing is ENOUGH.

Once one Devotee told: "Prabhupada, is it enough just to chant the Holy Names and follow 4 regulative principles? These things look so easy to do. How we can go back home by just doing these simple things?"

Srila Prabhupada's eyes filled with tears and he replied: "Why you do not trust me?"

    Your servant,

  • Thanks Rohit, It gave me some prespective

  • Hare Krishna..

Chanting the maha mantra is suggested in the scriptures and it is the best way to remember GOD at any point of time in our daily lives. But mere chanting is not enough for realization of the self. At first, you try to know the self and from there you will know GOD and realize the greateness of GOD. Only when you realize His greateness and His potence, you will be more attracted towards Him. So, my sincere advice is to read the Bhagavad Gita As It Is written by Srila Prabhupada. You will find all the answers to your questions and you will see the power of GOD in the form of knowledge. Then, once you have tasted the nectar, there is no going back. You will be greately attracted towards Him. He will be your greatest friend. You will be chanting and singing His glories all your life :) May Krishna's grace be upon you...
