Hare Krishna,

I know if an animal is hungry, I can feed it. But let's say if an eagle attacks a snake and I am in a position where I can separate snake and eagle and save the life of a snake. Should I act?

If I act, I will save the life of a snake. But, I cannot fulfill the hunger of Eagle. I am causing benefit to one animal at the cost of another. What can be done? What would Srila Prabhupada advice?

Please answer. Thank you.

  • Hare Krishna Prabhu,

You are killing and eating a plant. Does this mean that you must not kill and eat the plant.

It is by material nature one animal is food for another animal. Nothing can be done about it.

If the karmic reaction of the snake is such that it needs to be killed it has to happen. If the karmic reaction of the eagle is such that it has to go by hunger it has to happen. Until both snake and eagle get human forms and realize Krishna is supreme and return back to vaikuntha, karmic reaction acts.

The devotee humbly sees Krishna in snake and eagle.

    Haribol,

    Hare Krsna,

    PAMHO.

In the example given by you, snake neednt be helped. Snake and scorpion are in that yoni because of excessive envy. It is OK if the snake gets killed to be eaten by eagle.

Srila Prabhupada has mentioned somewhere that a devotee has utmost compassion for all living entitites. He ensures that even the lizard in the house gets some food.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
